About

I have more hobbies than I ever really have time to pursue, and from time to time, I acquire new ones just because I get curious and feel like trying something different.  I’ve been considering making a blog to document all of my odd forays into different hobbies, and right now, when many people are stuck at home due to the coronavirus, seems like as good a time as any.

Hopefully, these ideas will keep you entertained and help you pass the time.  I’ve decided to keep things as simple as possible, focusing on hobbies and projects that people can do easily with things that they already have at home.  Later, I might include things that are more complex, but I also want to keep the skill level relatively easy.  I like hobbies that don’t require extensive skills, the kind of thing that pretty much anyone could just jump into and learn as they go.  Most of what I discuss here will be in that spirit.

Much of what I have here will be easy enough for children and families to participate, and some of the pastimes have educational aspects, but they are not exclusively children’s activities.  More importantly, I want to encourage people to try new activities, using what they have, and without worrying about already being good at any particular hobby.  (Eventually, it will become clear that I’m no expert at even half the things I try.  I just like to experiment.  There will be photographic evidence.)  I think it’s more important for people to enjoy new activities and have fun with them.  The more fun you have, the more you’re likely to stick with something and continue to learn.  Improvement and even real skill may come with time, but everyone has to start somewhere.  So, just have fun and try whatever looks interesting!
